Prevention of Global Warming

Today, the mitigation of global warming is a challenge shared by all companies, public organizations, local governments and individuals. The Mabuchi Group is making every effort to reduce CO2 emissions.
Mabuchi emits no greenhouse gasses directly from its production processes. All of our CO2 emissions result from energy consumption.

Efforts in Head Office

Earth-Friendly Facilities

Reduction of air-conditioning load by natural ventilation

Effective use of natural lighting

Our Head Office building was built based on Mabuchi Group's Basic Environmental Policy which aims to make the best use of limited resources. By adopting state-of-the-art technologies and methods such as a double-skin structure to minimize heat load and a building-frame thermal storage, the building is well equipped to allow proactive pursuit of energy savings and has achieved more than 20% reduction in life-cycle CO2 emissions compared with buildings of similar scale with standard facilities. emissions over the building's life cycle compared with those of standard facilities.

  • Air-conditioning burden is reduced by promoting heat exhaust through the chimney effect created by the structure's double skin as well as by natural ventilation in conjunction with the atrium's skylight at dusk and at night.(above)
  • Electricity used for lighting is saved with the effective use of natural lighting through a double skin.(below)

Energy-Saving Campaign

Notice for visitors in the lobby at Mabuchi Motor Head Office during the "COOL BIZ" campaign.

As an efforts for forestalling global warming, the head quarter of Mabuchi Motor have introduced a summer dress code called "Cool Biz" from June to September. And as part of the "energy-saving campaign", we have introduced the campaign of "Let's think of the health and environment and walk up 2 floors and walk down 3 floors" and we are trying thereby to reduce carbon dioxide emissions for forestalling global warming. We will continue to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the educational campaign and campaign of energy savings and through promoting electric power saving activities by reviewing the operational procedures of electric equipment and equipment function.

Matsudo-shi has been participating in the “extensive campaign for reducing CO2.”

In 2009, Matsudo-shi in Chiba pref., a city where Mabuchi’s head office is located, has introduced three electric vehicles as its official vehicles based on the “project for leading introduction of electric vehicles (EV)” specified in the “extensive campaign for reducing CO2 (*1)” (regional planning of global warming prevention of Matsudo-shi). Mabuchi has agreed with the main purposes of the campaign, “to promote companies taking environmental-friendly approaches, to have citizens of and businesses in Matsudo-shi become interested in global warming prevention, and to aim at reducing greenhouse gases emitted from Matsudo-shi,” and has been supporting the activities in the form of posting the advertisement on one of the three electric vehicles. The supportive advertisement rate is allotted to financial resources for the project for preventing global warming.

The campaign has been launched in March 2009 as a project with which Matsudo-shi is to deal with global warming, one of the most serious problems for us at present, to pass down the beautiful earth for generations in a sound condition.

Efforts in the Logistics Field

Shipment from the warehouse at the Head Office

We are using Kobe Port and Kansai Airport to deliver products to some customers in Japan so that we can shorten the delivery distance and time from manufacturing facilities to their doors.
Also, we have established Chubu werehouse in the Chubu region in fiscal 2008 to reduce the transport distance to customers in that region.
The establishment of the Chubu warehouse will cut the transport distance by about 400 kilometers compared with shipments from our existing warehouse at the Head Office. This will reduce CO2 emissions by 29.4 tons per year according to a calculation based on the total transport distance in fiscal 2007.
We are also using stackable nesting pallets to transport products. This reduces the pallet volume when they return to the company, thus helping to reduce CO2 emissions during transport.

Efforts in Factories

Vinyl sheet partitions (Guangdong Mabuchi)

Guangdong Mabuchi, meanwhile, has engaged in activities to improve efficiency in the use of factory space through a production process review and layout change, aiming to improve productivity and reduce energy consumption. These activities achieved an improvement in production efficiency and a reduction in the total amount of electricity and water used and also contributed to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Dalian Mabuchi reviewed the management and operation of employees' dormitories and reduced annual electricity use by 16,000 kWh through the adjustment of, for example, the operation time of vacant rooms and facilities. This resulted in a 9.9-ton reduction in CO2 emissions on an annual basis.

Electric Power Consumption and CO2

In the Mabuchi Group, CO2 emissions are mainly from the consumption of electricity, which accounts for 85% of all energy consumption.
The next section (Efficient Use of Resources) discusses our measures to reduce electric power consumption.
